Four heats of the Ulverstone Pet Foods Breeders Classic headline Tuesday’s 10-race card at the Devonport Showgrounds.
A total of 16 qualifying heats were held on 5 December where the Ted Medhurst-trained Parkour recorded the quickest winning time of 25.52s.
The Fabregas – Keune dog, who lines up in race five, has won seven of his 14 career starts with five of those starts coming on the Devonport track where he has won two races, plus he has been placed on a further two occasions on the coastal track.
He scored in his heat by 6 1/2 lengths over Buckle Up Havana, breaking his previous personal best which was 25.71s.
On Tuesday Parkour has come up with box two where he will start one of the shortest price favourites of the day.
Medhurst puts the polish on Always Baroque, who is one of the main contenders in the first semi-final, which is race three on the program.
The Fernando Bale – Stayers Inn bitch chased home Buckle Up Miri in her heat before finishing second to Meehan Nelly in a Grade 5 race on 8 December.
Always Baroque has never missed a top-two finish in four starts and is having her first start from box eight today.
The last semi-final also sees a Medhurst runner as the one to beat in the way of Raleigh, the winner of three races with two of those wins coming on the Devonport track.
She won her qualifying heat prior to recording a personal best on the Devonport track in 25.72s on 8 December from box seven.
The main danger is Just Rambling from box three, and the chaser is one of two strong chances for Gary Fahey in the semi-finals.
Fahey’s other strong contender is My Bro Joe who is the early favourite in the second semi-final.
The last Breeders Classic held in Devonport was on 22 September which was taken out by the Jack Jury trained Recall.
The Superior Product – Princess Roman dog, has recently been transferred to the Victorian kennels of Jason Thompson.
It is expected that Recall will trial at The Meadows on Monday, with that performance to determine if the talented chaser will be aimed at the Group 1 Silver Chief with heats of that series to be held on Boxing Day.
