Hardly a feature greyhound event goes by without a Ted Medhurst-trained finalist and in Launceston on Monday night his handy sprinter Hooked on Brenda kept his strike-rate intact with an effortless win in the Curtains & Blinds Launceston Cup Consolation over 515 metres.
Hooked on Brenda (Hooksy-Bambalam Bruce) began brilliantly from box six to be first to the turn and from there on it was a procession with Medhurst’s sprinter drawing clear over the concluding stages to win comfortably from Bees and Honey ($6) with Definite Signs ($31) third.
Hooked on Brenda ($4) was third to Goodnight Vicki in their Cup heat, but she was permitted to show her true colours in the consolation to notch her 16th win in the state.
It was a roughhouse affair with Highland Chief ($4.80) causing mayhem on the home turn when he ran three other runners off the track.
The winner stopped the clock at 29.72 which equaled her best time on the Launceston circuit that she set in early January this year.
