The versatility of 16 greyhounds will be tested over the next three meetings at Ladbrokes Park in Hobart when they line up in the annual Medley Series which this year is sponsored by Jared Davies Carpentry & Maintenance.
The first round of the two-distance series kicks off with two heats over 599 metres which highlight Thursday night’s 10-race card.
At the following Thursday’s race meeting (27 May) the same greyhounds will race over 461 metres with the eight highest point scorers from the first two rounds then contesting the 599-metre final on 3 June.
Points system for the Medley Series as follows:
- 1st – 11 Points
- 2nd – 8 Points
- 3rd – 6 Points
- 4th – 4 Points
- 5th – 3 Points
- 6th – 2 Points
- 7th – 1 Points
- 8th – 0 Points
Dewana Whatever will line up in the second heat (Race 5) having previously won over the tough staying distance.
By Over Limit out of Dewana Sienna, Dewana Whatever has been a well-noted performer for the Carrum Downs-based Dozus Two syndicate since arriving in Tasmania and trained at Exeter under the guidance of Anthony Bullock.
The 32.4kg chaser has now won three races in that time, including a 599-metre win two starts ago clocking 34.39s.
Dewana Whatever is the $1.60 race favourite from box 8 ahead of Lucky Lynn from box 3 at $5.
Heat one of the Jared Davies Carpentry Medley Series is very much a once act affair according to the betting.
It’s A Cruise, for Debbie Cannan, is the $1.20 favourite from box 2 having not yet made his debut over the stayers journey.
Thursday night’s Hobart greyhound meeting will commence at 19.19 with all 10 races broadcast on Sky Racing 1 and TasracingTV.
