THREE-year-old harness racing filly Avens could have a bright future given her performance to win in Launceston last Sunday night.
With James Rattray in the sulky, Avens settled at the rear of the field of 11 and travelled comfortably in that position for the first half of the race, the Jillian Robins 3YO Pace over 2200 metres.
Approaching the bell lap Rattray eased Avens out three-wide to improve and she gradually made her way to the front turning for home and sprinted clear to establish a winning break half-way up the home straight.
It was only the filly’s second win from 17 starts but she has recently changed stables and given the ease with which she dispensed with her rivals on Sunday night there are definitely more wins in store for the daughter of Armbro Operative-Asteria.
Samantha Freeman, who races Avens on lease from Lloyd and Judy Whish-Wilson, won her first race with the filly just over a year ago.
Avers’ first win was the Belmont in Hobart.
Talented trained Brooke Hammond took over the training of the filly a few months back for a second, third, fourth and a win from four outings in her care.
