JAUNITA MCKENZIE could not have finished her most successful season as a trainer any more appropriately than with a double of which one of the steeds was named in memory of her late father.

Her two winners were Remember Joe and Major Callum but it is Remember Joe that continues to shine in memory of her late father.

McKenzie’s father Joe McKenzie was her inspiration while growing up as a child and his death hit hard two years ago.

Remember Joe was bred by the trainer’s sister Laraine who races the gelding in partnership with her husband Neil Rainbird, Vicki Carlton, Phil McKenzie and the trainer.

The gelded son of It Is I has been a model of consistency this preparation winning five of his eight starts this season to be one of McKenzie’s stable stars.

McKenzie finished the season with 18 winners and while her goal was 20 she was pleased with the end result.

Listen to what trainer Juanita McKenzie had to say about her double at Launceston last Sunday night.
