LIGHTLY raced mare Lottie’s Lady notched a career-best win when she outgunned a quality field in a class four handicap over 1200 metres in Launceston on Wednesday night.
The Mark Ganderton-trained grey mare was ridden by Dwayne Dunn who had to use her up early to make amends for a tardy start but it was the way she finished off that impressed both rider and trainer.
Lottie’s Lady cruised up behind the leaders in the home straight and Dunn had to take a narrow opening to put the mare into a winning position but it was the way she barged through the gap that opened the doors for the win.
So powerfully did she finish the mare hit the line about a length clear of Date and Sign with race leader Difrent hanging on for third just in advance of MossgielVillage.
“When the gap came I aimed her into the hole and she barged through which shows she is very genuine,” Dunn said.
“It is never easy to win when they give away ground at the start like she did but the mare did a great job and I would think there are m ore wins I store for her,” he said.
Ganderton was thrilled with the victory and admitted he was not overly confident she could win the race.
“I honestly thought that a minor place would be a good result because there were a couple in there that I thought she might struggle to beat but she did and I’m rapt,” Ganderton said.
Lottie’s Lady is a six-year-old that was having only her 22nd start but Ganderton said she had never been a horse with issues.
“I have never had to specially manage this mare. The only reason she is lightly raced is because she was a late maturer and we just gave her time to grow into herself.”
“Ashe has always had ability but there was no use rushing her and we are now reaping the rewards,” he said.
Lottie’s Lady has won four and been placed nine times from 22 starts for $56,500 in stakes.
