TRAINER John Blacker predicted his lightly raced three-year-old Powercharged (Magnus-Makochan) has the potential to win his way through to open class after he scored an emphatic win in a maiden handicap over 1420 metres in Launceston tonight (Wednesday).

Powercharged cruised up to the leaders turning for home and when jockey Brendon McCoull called on the gelding for the supreme effort he gave his rivals the slip and went on to win by over five lengths from Lady Vee and Unparalleled.

Blacker has moved back to Tasmania after spending two years in Victoria where he had stables at Seymour about 100 kilometres north of Melbourne.

He returned with a dozen horses two weeks ago and is now in the process of selling his Victorian property and plans to buy another home in his home town of Longford.

“This horse is very smart and if I’m right he will quickly go through his classes,” Blacker said.

“He has always shown us something special but we have taken our time with him and it will pay dividends,” he said.

McCoull was impressed with the gelding’s endeavor and also predicted a bright future for the son of Magnus.

“He gave me a good feel tonight and if he continues to improve he should live up to John’s (Blacker) expectations,” McCoull said.
