TASMANIAN thoroughbred racing unearthed a superstar in Launceston last night where three-year-old filly Arenzano gave arguably the best field ever assembled in a 3YO Cup a hiding over 1200 metres.
Arenzano started from the outside gate (12) but made light of the task by speeding across to take the lead an when rider Anthony Darmanin called on the Barry Campbell-trained filly to extend turning for home she found another gear and went on to score comfortably from What Life Brings and Mister John with Kenjorwood a closing fourth ahead of rank outsider Settler’s Joy.
Arenzano is no unbeaten from four starts this preparation andCampbellsaid he is now seriously contemplating attacking the Tasmanian Guineas over 1600 metres in Launceston on January 2.
She has won easily tonight and on that run I reckon we will go to the Tasmanian Guineas because I reckon she will love the 1600 metres,”Campbellsaid.
“I’ve said all along that she will be at her best when she gets over 1600 metres and I think she proved that again tonight,” he said.
