LEADING trainers David and Scott Brunton have their eyes on winning the Bow Mistress for fillies and mares with classy mare Los Skybo that won an open handicap in the last bound at Tattersall’s Park inHobarton Sunday.
Los Skybo won on Launceston Cup day this year and then went toVictoriato win a race atMooneeValley.
She returned to racing inTasmaniawith an emphatic win in a class four handicap over 1220 metres in Launceston, after which Scott Brunton outlined plans to tackle some feature races.
While the mare’s win on Sunday was by a narrow margin there is no doubt she has plenty of class and given her first-up record the Group 3 Bow Mistress over 1200 metres inHobarton Derby Day (February 3) could be a very winnable race for the daughter of Savoire Vivre.
Brunton said after Sunday’s win that the mare would be put away and not be presented at the aces until the Bow Mistress.
“She races best when fresh so that’s it for her until the Bow Mistress,” Scott Brunton said.
Los Skybo was well backed to start a clear favourite.
On Sunday she was allowed to race handy to the pace by rider Anthony Darmanin but Los Skybo became pocketed by Socks when he eased around the field midrace.
But Darmanin was able to barge his way clear and once the mare had clear racing room she stormed home to grab race leader Good Boy Robert in the last stride.
The Brunton’s also earmarked the Bow Mistress for Buzzing Along and while she finished last in a small field in Launceston last start plans remain unchanged.
