TALENTED mare First Bloom looks to be the only casualty from the Betfair Hobart Cup being postponed to Friday.
The Darren Weir-trained four-year-old is on her way back to Victoria with the trainer now believed to be setting his sights on a race at MooneeValley on Friday week.
First Bloom was one of the favourites to win the Group 3 Hobart Cup that carries prize money of $225,000 and while she remains in the field it is believed she will be scratched.
The only other interstate runner to be scratched from a feature race as a result of the postponement is three-year-old filly A Certain Smile that was officially scratched today from the Strutt Stakes to be run over 2100 metres on Friday.
The last six races at the official Hobart Cup day card were postponed due to a storm that wreaked havoc on Tattersall’s Park for over an hour leaving stewards with no option but to postpone the remainder of the meeting.
The other feature race to be rescheduled into the twilight package of six races is the weight-for-age Thomas Lyons Stakes but all interstate acceptors for that race remained in the state and will take their place in the field on Friday.
When the balance of the meeting was rescheduled all horses that were scratched were reinstated by the Peter Moody-trained Macedonian was again taken out as he will contest the Mornington Cup tomorrow.
