PLANS to embark on an interstate oaks campaign with talented filly Spinning Jenny have been aborted after she failed to place in the Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) in Launceston last week.

Spinning Jenny was awesome in winning the main lead-up race to the Oaks, the $100,000 Listed Strutt Stakes (2100m), in Hobart but after enjoying the run of the race in the Oaks she punctured in the straight to finish near last.

“The Strutt Stakes win obviously took it all out of her but she has taken no ill effects from the Oaks run and she will live to fight another day,” said trainer Brendan McShane.

“It was a terrific effort to win the Strutt Stakes so what we all take out of that is she is now a stakes winner and a filly with a bright future,” he said.

McShane ventured interstate with Spinning Jenny for a $120,000 race at Flemington in which she was a gallant fifth with Dwayne Dunn aboard but the trainer believes it may have attributed to her failed Oaks attempt.

McShane believes the trip across the water took a fair bit out of Spinning Jenny and getting her up for the Strutt probably left her with little to give in the Oaks.

Spinning Jenny will have a decent rest and connections will be hoping she can emerge as a major cups prospect next season.

While Spinning jenny escaped from the Oaks unscathed it was not however good news for Credit Trader that was beaten in the last stride by Westering Home in a BM68 handicap over 1600m on Cup day.

“Credit Trader unfortunately badly bowed a tendon in the final 50 metres of the race and that has ended his racing career,” McShane said.

“He will recover but his future will be in the show ring,” he said.
