SPREYTON trainer Barry Campbell unveiled another potential star galloper at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last night in the form of well bred three-year-old filly Twilight Belle.

The filly showed plenty of early speed and after leading her rivals a merry chase she then dug deep at the business end of the race to score from Sariana’s Quest with Kobble Creek third just in advance of Unconcerned.

According to Campbell Twilight Belle (Churchill Downs-Peal Of Thunder x Thunder Gulch) had shown above average ability from day one but he had to be patient as she was a bit immature.

“I didn’t want to rush this filly because she was a bit light on when she was a baby and we had to give her time to develop and she has furnished into a very nice three-year-old as a result of that patience,” Campbell said.

She presented well in the mounting yard and connections were upbeat about her chances of winning on debut.

“You never know for sure when one is having its first start but we were reasonably confident she would win if she took her trackwork and performance at a recent trial into the race,” said co-breeder David Larter.

Twilight Belle was bred by Woodlawn Park Stud that is owned and operated by Barry and Enid Larter and their son David.

Barry Larter was responsible for bringing the well-performed stallion El Moxie to Australia and he received international acclaim when one of the stallion’s progeny Silent Witness earned the title of world’s best sprinter while taking all before him in Hong Kong.

The Larters also bred two brilliant juveniles in Alfa and El Mirada (both by El Moxie) that later went on to win at Group level for Australian Hall Of Fame trainer Bart Cummings.

Campbell said he will make a decision in the next few days on whether to spell Twilight Belle or proceed for one more run.
