Two Tasmanian thoroughbred meetings originally scheduled for Sunday have been transferred to Saturday and will be broadcast on Sky 1.

The Think Pink Cup meeting in Launceston on Sunday 20 July will now run on Saturday 19 July and the Sunday 3 August meeting at Devonport will be run on Saturday 2 August.

Chief executive officer Eliot Forbes said Tasracing was focused on pursuing opportunities to obtain the best possible broadcast positioning for Tasmanian racing product.

“We are therefore very pleased that we have been able to secure, for the ultimate benefit of the industry, two Saturday race meetings this season,” he said.

“Showcasing Tasmanian thoroughbred racing alongside the best race meetings in Australia provides an excellent opportunity for building profile and increasing wagering turnover.”

Dr Forbes thanked the Tasmanian Turf Club (TTC), the Devonport Racing Club and the Think Pink Cup organising committee for their assistance in supporting the date changes.

Think Pink Cup chair Judi Adams said the race day luncheon was the largest charity race day held annually in Tasmania.

“Funds raise support the National Breast Cancer Foundation,” she said.  “Since inception the event has raised more than $200,000 net profit for the foundation.”

Ms Adams said the organising committee was excited by the move to prime time Saturday racing as this would assist to raise the profile of what was already a highly successful charity cup and luncheon.

“The move to the north of the state for the seventh year of this popular event presents a chance to involve TTC members more actively,” she said.

“And the running of the Cup on a Saturday lifts the brand exposure even further.”

Bookings for either lunch or a young race goers event can be made through the TTC on 6326 1070.
