TWO of Tasmania’s most promising middle distance performers Mumford’s Son and Good Odds Demon will clash again in a heat (Race 4) of the Greg Fahey Middle Distance Championship over 599 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tonight.
The pair recently won heats of the Vet’s Medley Series (599m) in Hobart before Mumford’s Son won the final with Good Odds Demon finishing fourth after finding trouble midrace.
Tonight Good Odds Demon has drawn the coveted inside box while Mumford’s Son has to contend with box five.
Mumford’s Son has shown impeccable box manners of late and that has been a key factor in him winning at his past four starts.
From box one Good Odds Demon gets the chance to lead and if that happens he is the one to beat.
The Susan Gittus-trained Miss Somebody would only need to take her last-start form into the remaining heat (Race 5) to win.
At her previous outing Miss Somebody rattled home to finish second to Mumford’s Son in the Vet’s Medley final (599m).
The daughter of Velocette usually shows good early speed so from box two she would only need to begin well to have a good chance of leading the field into the back stretch.
She has only won once from 10 tries in Hobart but she is best suited over this trip and beyond.
Hold On Coupe (8), Lonesome Knight (4) and Topline Power (5) represent the main dangers.
