TALENTED two-year-old filly Geegees Goldengirl gets the chance to break her maiden status at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today where she tackles a 2YO handicap over 1200 metres on a heavy track.
The Stuart Gandy-trained filly has placed four times from her six starts and she has contested all of the feature juvenile events won by Admiral and his stablemate Calavera.
She strikes a Heavy 8-rated track today but she is proven in the ground having finished second to Calavera in the $30,000 2YO Autumn Classic over 1100m three starts back on a track that was rated heavy 9.
Her main rival looms to be last-start winner Manchero from the powerful stable of Barry Campbell who has trained half the winners (12) of two-year-old races in Tasmania this season.
Another good each-way bet on the nine-race card should be Sparkling Moon (12) in race 2.
She was very unlucky not to win in Launceston last Sunday week and from barrier one and with Brendon McCoull aboard she should break her maiden status provided luck goes her way from the inside gate (1).
Dangers appear to be Chips (2), Flying Steve (3) and Frinja (4) with a watch on Queen’s Lad (7) that is a full-brother to former champion Lady Lynette that was sold to Mark Webb for $50,000 at the 2011 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
He has raced only once for a near last of 112 at Geelong in June last year when in the care of Ken Keys.
Tegan Keys now prepares the gelding for his Victorian owners and she trains at the same complex as Lady Lynette’s former trainer David Brunton so no doubt she will be getting some solid advice from that mare’s former mentor.
