Victorian-based jockey Cory Parish isn’t riding any highly-fancied runners in Hobart on Sunday but, given his strike-rate in Tasmania, punters should be wary of all his mounts. Parish, who intends to ride in the state on a regular basis from now on, has made four trips in recent weeks and ridden four winners.

“I rode a double at my first meeting and a winner at each of my next two but I didn’t have any luck in Launceston last week when most of my horses didn’t handle the track,” Parish said this week. “From now on, I will be available to ride at most Sundays meetings and the occasional midweek meeting if I get any offers _ much the same as Anthony Darmanin has been doing.”

Parish, 25, hails from New Zealand and also rode in Queensland before settling at Seymour about a year ago. He rides work for local trainer Murray Johnson and one-day a week travels to Euroa to ride for David Hayes. It was Hayes who provided Parish with his first Melbourne city winner last Saturday when they combined to score with outsider Warwarick at Moonee Valley. Parish was first brought to Tasmania by trainer Paul Maher who was based at Seymour before relocating to Hobart earlier in the year.

“People might be thinking that I only come over (to Tasmania) to ride for Paul but I’m available to ride for anyone,” the jockey said. On Sunday, Parish has two rides for Peter Luttrell and one each for Gary White, Paul Jones and Tammy Mollross.
