LONGFORD trainer Bill Ryan will send his promising middle distance performer Genuine Lad for a spell with the view of bringing him back for a tilt at the state’s major cups next season.

Genuine Lad made it three wins in succession when he led throughout to take out the benchmark 68 handicap over 1650 metres on the synthetic at Devonport yesterday (Wednesday).

The lightly raced three-year-old had scored impressive wins at his two previous outings at Devonport progressing from maiden company to winning two BM68 events in succession.

Ryan has always believed Genuine Lad would develop into a stayer and everything the son of Ladoni has done this time in was expected.

He was well ridden by Brendon McCoull who took the initiative at the start and urged his charge forward to lead and once in front he dictated the race at a snails pace early before allowing the gelding his head turning for home.

Genuine Lad sped clear and went on top score by three lengths from Super Broadband with Gee Gees Opera a close-up third.

Genuine Lad heads to the paddock with an impressive record of four wins and three minor placings from only nine starts.
