WHEN Joan and Keith Nichols bred their form handy race bitch Tricky Voilet to former Australian Cup winner St Pierre they were hoping the litter would inherit the sire’s had chasing trait.

They weren’t disappointed with all of the litter to race so far showing their sire’s keenness to chase.

Silver Pierre delivered the goods for Joan Nichols in Hobart last Thursday night and while he may have had a bit of luck on his side after missed the start from box two he still had to show the stuff that good dogs are made of to get up and win.

Silver Pierre was near last after they hit the ground running with All Terrific (3) and Arnhem Villain (7) vying for the lead with Noble Spirit punching up along the rail to stake his claim heading to the top turn.

But Silver Pierre was relentless in his pursuit to find the front and burrowed his way through a narrow gap on the rails to have his nose in front as they hit the top of the home straight.

When he had the lure in his sights he powered clear and went on to score by 6-1/2 lengths from All Terrific with Noble Spirit a close-up third.

It was only Silver Pierre’s third start but it was his second win having scored at his previous start at Devonport where he won in similar fashion.
