PROMISING pup Tax Toy made a clean sweep of his juveniles by powering his way to an impressive victory in the Winning Edge Kibble Juvenile over 461 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night (Thursday).

Tax Toy went into the race having impressively won his juveniles at Devonport and Launceston at his only two starts which convinced punters to unload on the Russell Watts-trained youngster  that started the $1.40 favourite.

Tax Toy began fairly from box one but he was unable to shrug off Pelican Keeping that was crowding the favourite in the run to the top turn.

The reserve Simpsons Bay showed blistering speed from box six to lead and held a commanding margin turning for home but by this time the favourite had dropped off the others and set sail after the leader.

Tax Toy sped through on the rails at the top of the home straight and forged clear to go on and defeat Simpsons Bay by almost five lengths with the well backed half Century a half-length astern.

Watts purchased Tax Toy from Robyn and Gary Johnson as a three-month old pup for an undisclosed sum but he bought him specifically for his nephew Adam Watts who lives in Queensland.

“My nephew Adam had been at me for ages to get him a dog to race down here and in the end I suggested we get a young pup and rear it instead of buying an older dog,” Watts said.

“Tax Toy was a natural and impressed me from day one.”

“He is such a fierce chaser that would run through a brick wall, so to speak, and I already believe he will run 600 metes or further so there is plenty of scope,” he said.

Tax Toy is by Dyna Lachlan from Helen Bale and is one of eight pups comprising  six dogs and two bitches that were bred by Robyn Johnson.

“When I went to have a look at the pups I bought the dog for Adam and I bought a bitch for myself but mine couldn’t go anywhere near as well as Tax Toy,” he said.

tax Toy is likely to have his next start in a heat of the Devonport club’s Breeder’s Classic series on October 21.
