IF well bred mare Play Apple Tree can reproduce the form she showed last start to win in Launceston then she looms as one of the better bets on the nine-race card at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tonight.
Play Apple Tree returned to form with an all-the-way win in a C0-C1 over 2200m defeating Robyn Scherbotsky and Sum One in Launceston last week.
She began brilliantly to easily hold the lead from the inside gate so from gate three and with unreliable beginners on her inside she gets the chance to do the same tonight.
Play Apple Tree was a smart two-year-old winning a heat of the Evicus Stakes before finishing a game second to the very smart Cloudy Delight in the final.
She went on to be very competitive at three but was forced out through injury.
Play Apple Tree has only had 13 starts for five wins and four minor placings which makes her clearly the best-performed in tonight’s race.
Boltnmach (Justin Campbell) is likely to press forward from gate four and if Campbell is unable to find the lead he will be content to face the breeze and it will take a very game driver to go forward from the rear to take that spot if the start pans out as expected.
Rocket Seal (1) and Ebabe (2) are drawn well enough to get a decent run and Original Art (5) as a much improved run last start to finish second to Bellicouslips (beaten a metre) to warrant plenty of respect.
