HALL of Fame trainer Charlie Goggin and his daughter Luella Meaburn have enjoyed a lot of success since they teamed up four years ago and one feature race the father-daughter partnership is keen to win is the Tasmanian Oaks.

In Hobart on Sunday they revealed one of their Oaks candidates in well-bred filly Bella Venus that scored an impressive win in a 3YO and Upwards Maiden Plate over 1000 metres with Victorian jockey Corey Parish aboard.

The John Blacker-trained Miss Mars led and despite being taken on from the outset she refused to wilt but she had no answer to the powerful finish of Bella Venus that camped just off the pace and let down brilliantly when produced to stake her claim in the home straight.

Goggin was delighted with her effort.

“She is a very nice filly. She does everything right and we have been patient because I believe she has the potential win be very good over distances up to 2400 metres,” Goggin said.

“If you look through her pedigree you’ll see that she is definitely bred to stay and provided we are patient I’m sure the owners will be rewarded,” he said.

Bella Venus (Big Brown-Bellasham x Shamardal) was purchased by Prime Thoroughbreds syndicator Joe O’Neill for $35,000 at the magic Millions 2013 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

“We still have a way to go to get to races such as the Oaks but she a perfect type for that race,” he said.
