WELL bred five-year-old Deputy Duke has been one of the most frustrating horses Longford trainer Barry Baker has had in his care but at Tattersall’s Park today he finally delivered the goods in he Glenorchy RSL 3YO and Upward Maiden over 1400 metres.

With Jason Maskiell in the saddle, Deputy Duke powered his way to the front at the top of the home straight and under strong riding he careered away from his rivals to score comfortably from Qui City with outsider Royal Classic third.

Deputy Duke (Tough Speed-Manalapan) has been trying to win a race for over two seasons, although this was only his 16th start and he had been placed five times and earned a few fourth-placed cheques to help pay the feed bills.

Baked said it was an overdue win but he was confident the gelding had the ability to win more races and get over more ground.
