ONE of Tasmania’s better performed two-year-olds from last season Mister John is back in work and will be aimed at the Tasmanian Guineas in the New Year.
Mister John, prepared at Brighton by Royston Carr, won at his only two starts last season and the second was on an unsuitable slow surface at Mowbray.
The son of Strada-Kats Clause impressed at both of his outings and Carr is quietly confident the gelding has what it takes to measure up as a three-year-old.
“I couldn’t be happier withy Mister John’s progress since he came back into work,” Carr said.
Mister John is owned and raced by his breeder Dr. John Burke who also has a full brother in work at Carr’s stable.
“Mister John’s brother is a very nice horse so we are hopeful he will follow in his big brother’s footsteps,” the trainer said.
Mister John never surfaced until late last season, winning his first race in May and he was spelled after winning again in June.
Mister John looked relaxed in his box at Carr’s stables this week in fact he was so relaxed he lay down on his straw bed to pose for a photograph.
