LEADING trainer Scott Brunton was hoping his handy middle distance performer Streetwise Savoire would secure a berth in next month’s Devonport Cup by winning the Sheffield Cup today but it was his less fancied Lander Dollar that emerged triumphant in the feature race on the card at Spreyton today.
Streetwise Savoire failed to run out the distance (1650m) but Lander Dollar, under the guidance of in-form apprentice Sherry Barr, led and showed tremendous courage at the business end of the race to emerge the winner from Second Dozen that held a clear advantage 100m from home with Genuine Lad running on well for third ahead of Lingo that made up good ground at the business end of the race.
Lander Dollar paid $17.30 for the win and $4.40 the place while the runner-up also was at big odds paying a place dividend of $4.90 for a huge quinella dividend of $158.10 with Tattsbet.
Listen to what Scot Brunton had to say about Lander Dollar’s surprise win in the Sheffield Cup.
