TASMANIAN equine graduate Camilla Whishaw will embark on what could be a life-changing journey today as one of a dozen people to have received a Darley Flying Start scholarship. Whishaw, 25, was accepted from over 500 applicants worldwide but her credentials were such that had bookmakers been fielding on the final group of 12 she would have been an odds-on favourite to be in the chosen line-up. She is the daughter of Robyn and the late David Whishaw who together developed Armidale Stud into arguably the state’s most successful thoroughbred stud. Another Tasmanian, Nicholas Hay has recently returned from his two-year scholarship in the same program. The scholarship comprises a full time, two year, international management training program for potential thoroughbred industry leaders. It sets itself apart from any other program of its type in the world with its focus on personal development and leadership and specialises in the international thoroughbred business. Management training is provided by established universities including University College Dublin and University of Sydney. Individual work placements are completed with leading thoroughbred industry organisations and individuals. During the program, trainees live and learn in Ireland, UK, USA, Dubai and Australia. Each trainee receives a full scholarship from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai.
