TASMANIAN Hall of Fame trainer Gary White knows how to win a Schweppes Tasmanian Derby having been successful with Ollie’s Gold two years ago and today he is hoping to repeat the dose with his promising 3YO stayer Shiralee.

The David and Louise Adams-owned gelding comes off a close-up second to Victorian Warrior of Fire in the Hobart Guineas on January 25 and his work since that effort has been outstanding according to White.

The race comprises a field of 13 of which only two are from interstate – Baja Moon from the Patrick Payne stable and the Terry and Karina O’Sullivan-trained Dandy gent that is Tasmanian bred and a graduate of the 2012 Tasmanian magic Millions Yearling sale.

Shiralee has always shown promise as a stayer and White was quick to realise his potential but had to put a lid on things when the owner though he might be getting a bit carried away when talking about the horse being a Derby prospect.

Shiralee is one of the favourites to win today’s $100,000 Listed event over 2200 metres.
