TALENTED mare Rozzie Roo looms as one of the best bets on the eight-race program at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight.
Rozzie Roo lines up in a class two handicap (race five) over 1200 metes and will start from gate seven with Brendon McCoull aboard.
The mare comes off an eye-catching second in a similar class race at what was her first run back from a spell.
She missed the start that night and looked unlikely to even place turning for home but she unleashed a powerful finishing burst to finish second and only a neck from the winner Geegees Soprano.
The mare’s trainer Helen Patterson is quietly confident the four-year-old can atone tonight in what is a similar assignment to last start.
“I thought she went into her last race a run short and that’s how it panned out, although I think had she not missed the start it may have been a different result,” Patterson said.
“I have always had a good opinion of this mare and she has proven to be everything we had hoped for and maybe a bit more,” she said.
Rozzie Roo has won two and been placed second from only four starts and her winning times have been good enough to suggest she will make her way to open company with natural improvement.
Tonight she meets some strong opposition including talented three-year-old filly Lustica that resumed with a game second to Rumeron in the 3YO Tasmanian Magic Millions Classic in Launceston last month and followed up with a luckless eighth to Valiant Warrior in the $50,000 3YO Classic on Launceston Cup day.
John Blacker’s promising sprinter Powercharged did enough at his first run back from a spell (third) to suggest he will be a chance, while Triple Be and Sid The Sloth must also be considered top each-way hopes.
