On a mild morning in Hobart, several contenders for feature races completed their final hit-outs ahead of the weekend during grass gallops at Ladbrokes Park, Elwick, on Tuesday morning. Matt Reid was there to take in the action.
Friday races
Ms Tasmania was on hand and will take her place in the Group 3 Mystic Journey Stakes (1200m). “She worked much better today than she did leading into the Blackflash,” trainer Siggy Carr said. She has been allotted 53.5kg, and Troy Baker will retain the ride, who was also aboard on Tuesday morning. Lovin’ Bev also had a gallop and will run in the Class 5 (1390m).
Victorian visitor Dazzling Lucy is another staying at Siggy Carr’s stables. However, trainer Tony Noonan, along with regular rider Jake Noonan, were present on Tuesday to see the last-start Flemington winner put through her paces. “It’s been nice to get down here early as it’s so hot at home,” said Tony Noonan. “We’ve had this race targeted for a while. There was a mares’ race for her last Saturday, but we felt the gap between runs leading into this was perfect.” Jake Noonan will return for the ride on Friday, having won on the same day last year with Bold Soul in the Tasmanian Derby.
Sunday races
The Andrew Gluyas-trained Arugamama is another visitor staying with Siggy and was given a look at the Hobart track with Jake Noonan aboard.
The Summer Cup quinella of Promises Kept and Strawberry Rock (main picture) have remained in the state at John Keys’ Seven Mile Beach property since that race, and both galloped on Tuesday morning. The 2024 Summer Cup winner, Alhambra Lad, has also stayed in the state at Seven Mile Beach, with connections opting for a different preparation to last year when a beaten Hobart Cup favourite.
Goldman (B.McCoull) returns to the yard after working on Tuesday morning.
Champion galloper The Inevitable completed his final work ahead of Sunday’s WFA Thomas Lyons (1400m), as did stablemates Cartoon Graveyard and Sailor, who are also heading to the race. David Pires will take the ride on Cartoon Graveyard in the Thomas Lyons, replacing apprentice Jackson Radley, who has been aboard for the last five starts.
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott stable were represented on Tuesday morning by Goldman, who arrived in the state last Wednesday. The stable confirming that the horse has settled in well to John Blacker’s Brighton stables after initially having a rough boat ride over. The Hobart Cup hopeful wore blinkers on Tuesday morning with champion jockey Brendon McCoull in the saddle.
