Inherited Charm, Tasmania’s newest sprinting sensation, bolstered his already promising career with a low flying 29.32-second performance on debut around Launceston on Tuesday afternoon for Mangalore trainer Gary Fahey.
The son of Feral Franky, out of Fahey’s exceptional producer Sacred Shadow, lived up to the reports of his impressive trials leading up to the anticipated outing and made a bigger name for himself with his effort.
Starting from box 5 in a 515m Grade 5 event, Inherited Charm ($1.22 fav) was slightly slow at the beginning but quickly outsprinted his rivals within a few strides, taking the lead at the first corner and demonstrating his prowess.
He surged to the line, carving out fast splits, winning by 13 lengths ahead of Fearsome Flit and Buzzard Zorro.
“He’s a very smart dog with a bright future ahead,” stated Gary Fahey, the Tasmanian Hall Of Fame trainer.
“The time recorded on Tuesday was not surprising, he had previously trialed 29.50 around Launceston before his debut on the track. The trial was his first complete run around the track; he is a good railer and a brilliant chaser.”
In just five starts, Inherited Charm has won four races and broken 26 seconds on three occasions in Hobart, winning both the heat and final of the Wynburn Sheean series.
“He has box speed and is quite strong once he gets going. His sectionals around Hobart have been impressive. He continues to perform at a high level, I believe he will go quite far,” Gary Fahey described about Inherited Charm.
“The difference between Inherited Charm and Raider’s Guide, his half-brother, is that Raider’s Guide likes to scout about his style of running, whereas Inherited Charm is an impressive railer; I couldn’t be more impressed.
“He made the Devonport Breeders Final last year, but inexperience got the better of him, he’s com one since then.”
While his ability is at the forefront, Gary Fahey and his daughter Carol Martin who part owns the chaser, have plans for Inherited Charm which will see him aimed for the Steve King Breeders Classic in Launceston coming up in March.
Inherited Charm is still a grade 6 class runner in Launceston on a Monday night which would be his next mission.
“The times that Inherited Charm has produced at Hobart would have won the last two Hobart Thousand’s. This dog has run faster than most dogs that have competed in it, so you would expect him to be a smart type,” Gary said.
