TASMANIA’S multiple premiership-winning rider Brendon McCoull will be hoping his winning run is extended to the meeting at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston tonight.
McCoull rode half the card on the eight-race program in Devonport last Sunday and his book of six rides tonight look likely to edge him closer to David Pires in the race for his 14th jockey’s premiership.
He has four rides on the nine-event program with last-start winner Who Decides for Broadmarsh trainer Brendon McShane looming as his best winning chance in race four, a maiden-class one over 1620 metres.
Who Decides was tough and courageous in winning a maiden over 1400m in Launceston last start and tonight the lightly raced five-year-old gelding steps up in distance to 1650m but in a maiden-class one.
McCoull’s other rides are aboard Krake in race three (maiden 1420m) that produced an eye-catching second at his first start in the state at Devonport just over two weeks ago and in race eight he jumps back on the Steve Davis-trained Leigh John in a class one over 1420m.
Cuprona Road looms as a genuine each-way chance and if McCoull can secure a cosy spot from a good barrier (3) the Leon and Dean Wells-trained gelding should figure prominently at the business end of the race.
