Apple Green has been slowly coming to terms with racing and last Sunday the three-year-old filly by Purrealist from Youthful Legs issued a warning that she will soon find the winner’s circle.
The John Blacker-trained filly was settled midfield and one-off with cover before being set alight 3W 600m from home.
She loomed to win in the home straight but knocked up 50 metres from the line.
With that run under her belt she should be ready to win against similar opposition next start.
Apple Green is raced by prominent Victorian owner Graeme Gathercole who had the horse with trainer Jerome Hunter before transferring her to Blacker’s stable in early Marsh.
Kadann is prepared at Longford by Barry Baker and was an eye-catching second to the promising Red Sun Rising in the opening race, a maiden/class 1 over 1650m at Spreyton last Sunday.
Kadann settled midfield and improved gradually from the 600m mark to put himself in contention turning for home.
He knuckled down to his task in the straight and was beaten less than a length.
It was a vast improvement on what he’d shown at his three previous starts for Baker.
The six-year-old hails from Western Australia where he had seven starts under three trainers before being sent to the Brunton stable in Tasmania after a year and nine months away from racing.
He had only two starts for David and Scott Brunton before arriving in Baker’s stable.
