BRIGHTON trainer John Luttrell has nothing but admiration for eight-year-old gelding Heartbreak Kid that delivered one of his best performances to win the Fuji Xerox Services Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1400 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday.

Heartbreak Kid has been a terrific money spinner for his connections, having win 16 and placed 24 times from his 96 starts for over $210,000 in stakes.

He is a known wet-tracker that has thrived on racing and it is the horse’s competitive nature that has made him such a popular galloper in Tasmania.

On Sunday he was ridden for luck by top jockey Stephen Maskiell who allowed the gelding to settle back in the field and be saved fore one dash at them in the home straight.

It was a keenly contested race with the well-backed Hell Strong looking the likely winner when he dashed clear in the home straight only to be run down in the last few strides by Heartbreak Kid with Tough Future two lengths away third.
