Seven races were held by the Tasmanian Pacing Club at UBET Park, Hobart on Sunday night.
Thirlstane King followed up his dead heat with Fundamentalist at Mowbray the previous Sunday night, with an all the way win in the Max Hall Pace. He defeated the last start winner Major Jamane by four metres at a 2:03.5 rate for the 2090 metres.
Thirlstane King is raced by his breeder, trainer Geoff Madden and was driven by Paul Hill. Thirlstane King had only one start as a two year old with a brilliant 1:59.5 win in Hobart. After breaking down he did not appear again till this season where, from five starts, he has recorded two wins and a placing. He is a bay colt by Modern Art from the good producer Shansue Mod, a daughter of Torado Hanover that has produced eight winners including the $100,000 winners Topnotch Dan and Jay Bardon.
The best run of the night was the Grant Hodges trained and Erin Holloway driven El Jays Magic in the Eddie Hook Pace .The five year old daughter of JR Mint and the Times Stand Still mare El Jays Angel was forced to race outside pacemaker The Dip all the way, but came away in the straight to win by four metres in the good mile rate of 1:58.5 for 2090 metres. El Jays Angel has now raced twenty nine times for eleven wins and twelve placings. El Jays Magic is raced by her breeders Lyndon and Gail Menegon.
Rockin An Runnin won at his third race start in the David Bird Pace for two year olds. Always handy to the pacemaker Spot Eight, he finished best to defeat that pacer by two metres, covering the mile in 2:02.5. Rockin An Runnin is a brown gelded son of Major In Art and the Fake Left mare, Run Matilda Run. He is trained by his part owner Chris Howlett and was well driven by his son Matthew Howlett who recently finished second to Wade Rattray in the 6tyo Youngbloods Series.
