Two horses inherited from other stables gave young Longford trainer Dylan Clark a satisfying double in Launceston on Sunday.
Troublesome three-year-old Son Of Faith was originally trained at Spreyton but was so unruly he was sent to Clark to be re-educated.
Managing owner Graeme Russell said that it had taken Clark two months of hard work to settle the gelding down.
“The horse was a bad bucker and Dylan has done a fantastic job with him,’’ Russell said.
Son Of Faith finally made it to the races on Sunday and was impressive winning the 3YO Maiden.
Apprentice Hayley McCarthy sat behind the leaders on the $15 chance before following the favourite Aquila Reale into the race rounding the home turn.
Aquila Reale hit the front at the top of the straight but Son of Faith went through on her inside and proved a little too strong in the run home.
Son Of Faith is raced by the 15-member Devonport Racing Club No. 1 Syndicate, managed by Russell who is a former club chairman.
The syndicate’s most successful horse to date has been Devon Lass, a winner of six races.
The syndicate bought the Keep The Faith gelding from former Devonport trainer Paul Jones who bred him from his smart racemare Star Jeune, a winner of eight races.
‘‘He’s a full brother to Diocese who won a couple for Adam Trinder but I think he broke down,’’ Russell said.
Clark completed his double when Mister Baldock won the R F Fergusson (Bm62) Handicap at his first start for five months.
Mister Baldock was previously trained by Terry Roles before he scaled down his operation to pursue another career.
Mister Baldock has won up to 2100 metres but Clark said he doubted that the five-year-old was a genuine stayer and he wasn’t surprised to see him score over 1200m while fresh.
Sinodal, the dam of Mister Baldock, won 12 races up to 2400m.
