SOME horses are like red wine in that they get better with age and at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Sunday Centenary Diamond added credence to that adage.

While there are some who would dispute Centenary Diamond has improved with age, the eight-year-old delivered the most professional performance in the race to emerge triumphant in the Tasmanian Bridge Association BM68 Handicap over 1200 metres.

Centenary Diamond had not won a race for over two years but his trainer Walter McShane always believed there would be at least another win in the gelded son of Matsqui.

It was the gelding’s eighth win from 68 starts but he also has accrued 22 minor placings to help his stake earnings top $100,000, ensuring he has paid his way.

Centenary Diamond was well ridden by stable apprentice Bulent Muchu and it was the middle leg of the rider’s treble that took his season win tally to 18-1/2.
