THE success of Tasmanian thoroughbred Geegees Blackflash has encouraged his owner Paul Geard to secure his star gallopers sire to stand at his GG Horse Stud at Broadmarsh.
Clangalang, a multiple Group 1 winner, arrived in Tasmania two weeks ago and his book for the coming season is filling fast.
Earlier this season Geegees Blackflash became the first Tasmanian horse to win $1 million in stakes without having left the state and he is Clangalang’s best-performed racehorse.
“I tried to get Clangalang last year but the deal fell through at the last minute but this time we were able to successfully negotiate the deal and I am thrilled to have the horses standing here in Tasmania,” Geard said.
“We all know what Geegees Blackflash has done and he has helped put Clangalang on the map as a sire so I thought it would be fitting to have the stallion stand him stand at our stud.
Clangalang has stood at stud in two states, NSW and SA, with his progeny having won 378 races derived from 108 individual winners for close to $9 million in stakes.
The Geards already have a very successful stallion in Wordsmith (x Testa Rossa) with his progeny winning multiple feature races during this season’s Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.
“Clangalang has proven to be a good sire of stayers so I will be hoping to breed some good ones who can excel over a bit of ground and if that happens then we will have achieved our goal,” Geard said.
Wordsmith has had another great season with his progeny so far winning 36 races delivered by 14 individuals for stakes of $843,562.
“Wordsmith has clearly proven himself as a successful sire in Tasmania and now we are hoping Clangalang can play his part over the next three seasons or so,” Geard said.
