PINT-SIZED gelding Rocklea Road put punters on the front foot in the opening race at Spreyton today with an effortless six-length win.
Rocklea Road (Estambul-Wild Rapid) was having his second start this preparation following on from a first-up second to the highly promising Count Out that broke the 900-metre track record at what was his first start.
Rocklea Road, trained at Spreyton by Leon and Dean Wells, made the most of the inside barrier to lead with jockey Brendon McCoull able to settle the flashy chestnut after travelling 400 metres.
The gelding gave his rivals the slip turning for home and when McCoull asked for a bit extra 200 metres from home the gelding found again.
Rocklea Road is owned by a syndicate that includes former top jockey and trainer Jodi Snell who stays involved in the industry these days as an owner.
Snell said Rocklea Road was lucky to be still racing after a trackwork mishap that resulted in a life-threatening injury.
