THE semi-finals of the HGRC Breeders Classic delivered plenty of surprises and none more so than with Regent Lois winning the opening semi for her trainer Don Oldham.
Regent Lois (Kinloch Brae-Regent Force) delivered a stellar performance to outgun Wynburn Warrant and Wynburn Lucre with the winner recording a reasonable time of 26.45 over the 461 metres.
Regent Lois was second in her Breeders Classic heat behind star young sprinter Keune and she took that form into her semi-final.
Keune’s kennel mate and sibling Retail Chart was sent out the $1.70 favourite but he found all sorts of trouble and did a good job to regain his composure and finish fourth.
But the night belonged to Regent Lois and her trainer Oldham who had not trained a winner in just over six years.
“I’m on top of the world. She’s a nice pup with a future,” Oldham said.
Regent Lois paid $11.70 with UBET and $3.20 the place as one of the outsiders of the field.
The winner was bred by Barry Heawood and Muzza Johnson who also own and race the pup.
