WELL-BRED two-year-old Blaze Forth (Court Command-Certain Blaze) delivered on the promise he made at his first two starts to score a narrow win in the opening raced on the nine-event card AT Spreyton today.
The John Blacker-trained gelding travelled just off the speed set by The Captain to the home turn with the well-tried Princess of York also handy to the lead.
When jockey Brendon McCoull called on Blaze Forth for the big effort in the home straight the gelding dig deep and grabbed victory in the shadows of the post scoring from Princess of York (Anthony Darmanin) and The Captain (David Pires) that fought back courageously after being clearly headed 100 metres from home.
Blaze Forth was placed third on debut at Spreyton and went into this latest assignment on the back of a second place on the same track.
“We made sure we had him racing closer to the speed today because he was back against his own age and while the winning margin was only narrow (nose x nose) we got the desired result,” Blacker said.
“He is very well bred and has shown me a lot of ability from day one but we’ve taken our time and I’m confident there will be more wins when he comes back as a three-year-old,” he said.
Blacker confirmed Blaze Forth would now be spelled.
