PROMISING young pup Regent Lois gave her trainer Don Oldham his first winner in almost six years when she won a semi-final of the HGRC Breeders Classic last month but it won’t be another six years before he secures another win.
Regent Lois is an exciting prospect and in Devonport today she looms as one of the best bets on the 10-event card.
The well-bred bitch lines up from box two in the The Advocate Stakes for juveniles over 452 metres in which she should start a warm favourite.
The Eileen Thomas-trained Lucky Nineteen looms as the logical danger from box eight as he has won twice and been placed third from his past three starts.
Bronelly Raider, prepared by Anthony Bullock at Exeter, was third on debut in Devonport two weeks ago and only has to jump with them from box three to make an impact at the business end of the race.
Another juvenile to show up during the HGRC Breeders Classic series was Joker Jones and he should make his presence felt in the opening race on the program.
The Geoff Kennedy-trained youngster won a semi-final of the breeders before finishing a game second to Wynburn Witness in the final.
He finished fourth at his subsequent outing in Launceston on July 20 before venturing to that venue eight days ago to finish fourth in the J G nelson Division four final behind the highly promising See Blue’s Girl.
Today from box four he should only need to jump cleanly and avoid interference on his way to the top turn to be a top winning chance.
