TALENTED greyhound pup Joker Jones will go into next week’s heats of the Young Star Classic in Hobart in winning form following an impressive effort in Devonport yesterday.
Joker Jones was sent out the long odds-on favourite ($1.55) and he never gave his backers any caused for alarm.
The Geoff Kennedy-trained pup began with the field from box four but soon after he bounded clear and had no trouble accounting for his rivals scoring by over three lengths from Dream Impact with Wynburn Lucre third.
Joker Jones debuted in a heat of the HGRC Breeders Classic in which he finished second followed by a semi-final win and he was run down by the very smart Wynburn Witness in the final.
Two starts in Launceston in the J.G. Nelson Cup series resulted in a fourth and then third in the final.
“I am happy with how the dog is progressing so we will proceed to the Young Star Classic heats in Hobart next week and hopefully he can make the final,” Kennedy said.
“He’s pulled up well from yesterday’s run at Devonport and for the time being I’ll probably concentrate on running him in Hobart and Devonport.”
“The Devonport club’s breeders classic series isn’t until October-November so I’ll target graded events in between,” he said.
Joker Jones (Spring Gun-Miss Mint) is owned and raced by Barry Heawood and “Muzza” Johnson in partnership with the trainer.
