DEVONPORT Cup winner Rewind had his colours lowered in Launceston last week but he will be out to avenge that loss in an invitation race over 452 metres at Devonport today.
Rewind chased home Galtee Again in Launceston falling short by a half-length after striking more trouble that the early explorers.
He has drawn box two today and while not an ideal alley he would only need to get through the first 80 metres without interference to be the one to beat.
Galtee Again’s kennel mate I’m A Fencer is resuming from a five-month break through injury but is reported to be working well and his trainer David Crosswell is confident of a bold first-up effort despite drawing box five.
Lucky Norris is drawn well in box seven and he looms as Rewind’s main danger.
Rewind’s trainer Morrie Strickland has been careful with his kennel; star’s preparation leading up to the National Sprint series that will be run in Hobart next month.
The dog’s record of 28 wins and eight minor placings from 40 starts in Tasmania is testament to his ability and win or loose today he remains one of the most likely to represent Tasmania in the National Sprint Championship to be run at Tattersall’s Park on August 25.
Another top class dog returning from injury is the Michael Stringer trained Bergermeister in race nine.
He last raced on March 8 at Hobart but was injured and hasn’t raced since. Before his injury he had won two Invitations at Hobart in fast time and has won 13 of his 23 Tasmanian starts including two at Devonport where he recorded 25.48.
