HEATS of the Young Star Classic (461m) are the features on the 10-race greyhound card at UBET Park Hobart tonight.
The series boasts some of the best youngsters in the state and all three codes boast multiple winning chances.
The fist heat (race 3) should see last-start winner Cash and Co (box eight) from the Jack Jury kennel or the Russell Watts-trained Obsolete (one) start favourite.
However, there also should be good support for Regent Assassin that is yet to win but has notched minor placings at her past three starts for Nicholas Howard.
Ted Medhurst’s Retail Chart will likely start favourite in the second heat (race 4) as he comes off a game a close-up second to Breaker’s Tip in the state final of the National Sprint Championship in Launceston on Monday night.
But the extra smart bitch See Blues Girl from the Patrick Ryan kennel could not have been more impressive in winning at her past two starts and will give this a shake from box seven.
The highly promising Joker Jones is sure to have his share of support but the Geoff Kennedy-trained youngster will need a clear run from box six if he is to figure at the business end of the race.
The final heat (race 5) also is the first leg of the quadrella and here either one of Ted Medhurst’s litter siblings Local View of Keune should salute.
Local View has won his past two while Keune has mixed form but should she fly the lids and run a straight line to the top turn from box six she will be hard to catch.
The first two placegetters and the two fastest third-placed will progress to next week’s final.
