SPREYTON trainer Dean Wells described his quality sprinter The Invincible One as a horse going places following another impressive win on his home track last Sunday.
The Invincible One has had only three starts for Wells and all have given the trainer cause to smile.
The grey gelding was placed third at his first start for Wells at Tapeta Park Spreyton on April 1 but at his subsequent outing under lights in Launceston he powered home to score an emphatic win in an open handicap over 1100 metres.
“To win like he did today after being three and four-wide with no cover for much of the race speaks volumes for this horse’s ability and courage.”
“There was so much merit in that performance and it should have proven just how good he is,” the trainer said.
Apprentice Bulent Muchu was content to let The Invincible One travel without cover and wide to the home turn.
When the gelding was allowed his head in the home straight he laid his ears back and chased down the leaders to score running away on the line.
The Invincible One came to Tasmania last year and was in the care of Glenn Stevenson who prepared the grey gelding to win four times from seven starts of which three of the wins were in succession in the space of four weeks in August-September last year.
Wells believes there is plenty of scope for improvement.
“He keeps improving with each run and he is really loving life at the moment,” Wells said.
“He’s pulled up a teat from the run so we’ll more than likely head him towards an open handicap in Launceston in three weeks,” he said.
The Invincible One began his racing career in Sydney in the care of John O’Shea who prepared him to win two of which one was in a midweek 0-75 at Canterbury.
He was then transferred to Brett Cavanough stable where he spent three preparations for two wins and a bundle of minor placings.
But since he arrived in Tasmania he has notched six wins and a third from only 10 starts.
