A COLT by Teofilo purchased by Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir at the 2014 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling sale scored an impressive win at Flemington on Saturday on the last day of the VRC Spring Carnival.
Palantino (Teofilo-Palatine Hill) was the top-priced yearling at the sale, being knocked down to Weir for $85,000.
He was bred by Jenny Watson of Macleay Thoroughbreds who at the time of the sale was thrilled that Weir had thought enough of the colt to take him home as the top-priced yearling.
On Saturday the flashy chestnut dashed home his last 600m in a better time than that of the Group 1 Emirates Stakes winner Turn Me Loose.
Palantino has had only three starts for two wins and a second for almost $120,000 in stakes and Weir says he shows staying promise.
The 2016 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale will be held in Launceston on February 18.
