CLASSY two-year-old pacer Cloudy Delight reaffirmed her status as Tasmania’s best juvenile filly when she led all the way to win the $30,000 Evicus Stakes final at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night.
With her trainer Christian Salter in the sulky, the filly showed brilliant early speed to lead from the pole (1) position and she gave nothing else a chance on her way to a four-metre win over Play Apple Tree that faced the breeze throughout with the winner’s stablemate Iden Princess a distant third.
Cloudy Design (Bettors Delight-Cloudy Road) was having only her sixth start with this latest win her fifth and she was second at her only other start.
She was heavily backed in to start the $1.60 favourite with the win likely to earn her a trip interstate to tackle the Breeders Crown series in Victoria next month.
Her part-owner and breeder Noel Salter said she deserved the chance to mix it with the best interstate.
“This filly has probably proved she is the best of her age and sex in the state because she’s won the three feature races and she won all but one of her six starts and was second in the other,” Salter said.
“She’s clocked a mile rate of 2.00.3 in winning her Evicus heat and she’s gone 2.00.5 in the final tonight in horrendous conditions so all in all I’m more than pleased with what she’s done do far.”
“Provided she pulls up well we’ll go the Breeders Crown heat in Launceston next week and if everything pans out as expected she’ll be off to Melbourne,” he said.
