He’s the sire who’s taken the Tasmanian industry by storm and buyers at the 2016 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale will get a rare opportunity to join the fun when five of his stock go under the hammer.
Having originally stood privately at Gee Gee Horse Stud, Wordsmith is one of the country’s most successful young sires and now his stock are accessible to buyers.
With his early season two-year-olds from just his fourth crop already starring, Wordsmith is continuing to establish himself as one of the top percentage sires in the country.
From 64 foals, he’s produced 43 runners – 28 individual winners of 90 races! His statistics are evenly spread across colts and fillies and his progeny have already won stakes races from 1200 to 2400 metres.
Wordsmith’s progeny include Derby winner Geegees Classicboy, Oaks winner Geegees Goldengirl and stakes winning juvenile Gee Gees Top Notch. His other stars include fellow black type performers Geegees Velvet, Geegees Doublejay, Gee Gees Style and Gee Gees Vicki.
“With 79 per cent starters to foals and 65% winners to starters there’s no doubt Wordsmith is one of the real unsung stars among Australian sires,” Magic Millions’ Tasmanian Consultant Tim Brown said.
“The Testa Rossa stallion is travelling tremendously well and already this season has sired the very exciting juveniles Gee Gee Double Dee and Gee Gee Pure Gold.”
“We’re excited to have five of his yearlings to offer in Launceston next February – so there’s a great opportunity for buyers to enjoy the same success enjoyed by Wordsmith’s owners Paul and Elizabeth Geard.”
“The Geards in conjunction with studmaster Stuart Gandy have done a tremendous job with the progeny of Wordsmith – this spring he covered 50 outside mares and his book was not surprisingly overflowing.”
“The Wordsmith yearlings in the sale in February are a true refelction on the sire whose stength and tenacity eventuated in a Group Three win. He reguarly performance at the top level in his classic year.”
