VETERAN Tasmanian greyhound trainer Jed Mace celebrated his best day at the races yesterday when he trained five winners on the 10-event card including the Devonport club’s Breeders Classic with Droopy’s Jacket.
It was a day to remember and it included three dogs from the same litter that he bred.
Droopy’s Jacket gave her rivals a galloping lesson and made the most of box one to lead throughout to defe5at race favourite Supreme It Seems and Obstruction.
Droopy’s Jacket (Droopy’s Marco-Dyna Falcie) went into the final on the back of consecutive seconds in a heat and semi-final of the Breeders Classic series.
She made the most of box one to lead the favourite Supreme It Seems (6) and the well-backed Hat Trick Babe (8) with Obstruction just off the speed.
But when the daughter of Droopy’s Marco-Dyna Falcie slipped into overdrive she burst clear and hit the line a length clear of Supreme It Seems with Obstruction a close-up third.
Litter sister Droopy’s Ella notched her first win when she powered home to take out a juvenile event over 452m at what was her sixth start while her sibling Droopy’s Dasher made it three wins for the litter when he proved too strong for a grade four field to register his third career win from only seven starts.
Mace’s other winners were Codex in an invitation race over 452 metres and Tecoma Bob that ran on strongly from well back to get up in the last few strides for one of the most impressive wins of the meeting.
