A RECORD crowd flocked to Longford for the Tasmanian Turf Club’s annual New Year’s Day meeting with the six-race card proving popular with punters who wagered heavily on the meeting both on and off course.

With the meeting broadcast on Sky 1 it gave the venue national exposure and the almost 4000-strong crowd that flocked to the country circuit made it one of the most enjoyable Longford Cup meetings in years.

Fashions on the Field entries were at a record high and car spaces were maximised with the club for the first time selling spaces along the outer rim of the area alongside the stretch leaving the home straight.

The Cup was won by Miss It And A Bit and ridden superbly by apprentice Sherry Barr to give the 28-year-old one of her biggest wins since she became apprenticed over two years ago.

It also gave trainer Scott Brunton back-to-back wins in the race having been successful last year with Cherry Dancer.
