TALENTED greyhound Keune powered her way into the Devonport Cup final (to be held on January 12) with a brilliant win in her heat on January 5 in Devonport.
The Ted Medhurst-trained bitch scampered over the 452 metres in 25.10 to be the fastest of the seven heat winners.
Keune has just returned from an unsuccessful stint in Victoria where she was unplaced in a heat of the Laurels at Sandown.
But from box one she was never going to be beaten once she found the lead soon after the start and she went on to score by over five lengths.
Her kennel mate Prescribe made the most of box one to score an impressive win in his heat scoring by five lengths and in a time of 25.29.
The Patrick Ryan-trained Lemon Sunrise won her heat to sound a warning that she will be a threat in the final.
Lemon Sunrise showed great track sense in the home straight to dart back to the rails and flash home to defeat the fast-finishing Miss Stylist.
Breaker’s Tip, Tasmania’s representative in last year’s National Sprint Championship, made his way into the final with a workmanlike effort to win his heat.
Veteran trainer Graeme Moate will be represented in the final by Shanlyn Jed that was the rank outsider in his heat starting at $61.
Shanlyn Jed led throughout and clocked a reasonable 25.68.
Sheffield based trainer Jed Mace had a day out at Devonport last week winning five races on the 10-evernt card and he has a big chance or preparing the Cup final after winning his heat in a slick time of 25.13, leading all the way from box two.
The final heat was taken out by Elite Enfield that scored by over four lengths and he stopped the clock at 25.26.
